Dear Parishioners and Friends,

Today, Easter Sunday, marks the glorious day when Our Lord Jesus Christ rose triumphantly from the grave to destroy the power of sin and death. Through the Resurrection of Jesus, God the Father removed the judgment of condemnation from the marked soul of humanity and restored all of us to His kingdom of grace and peace.

We rejoice today, ‘the Day the Lord has made”. Christ won our salvation and we are saved from the clutches of Satan’s power. We shall truly be free when we continue to walk the way of holiness, the way of love, the way of humility, together with our brothers and sisters who journey with us.

Christ is risen! Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!!!

When Bishop Oscar Cantú made a pilgrimage to the Philippines in January 2023, one of the sites they visited was the Cathedral Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Diocese of Antipolo, popularly known as the Shrine of the Virgin of Antipolo, Nuestra Señora de la Paz y Buen Viaje (Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage). It is under this title that the Blessed Mother is invoked as patroness of migrant Filipinos. Recently, the Vatican bestowed on the Cathedral the title of International Shrine, indeed a rare distinction. Last February, Pope Francis added another dignity to the statue by conferring on the image of the Virgin of Antipolo a Golden Rose.

The rector of the Shrine, Fr. Reynante Tolentino, committed to donate an image of the Virgin of Antipolo to the Diocese of San Jose, after having been informed that, for many years, we have a diocesan devotion to the Blessed Mother. Fr. Tolentino will deliver the image of the Virgin Mother to the Diocese. Her first stop upon arriving in the Diocese will be here at St. John the Baptist Church.

Fr. Tolentino will celebrate a Mass on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at our usual Novena at 6:30 p.m. during which he will entrust the Statue to the Diocese of San Jose.

The Image will be permanently enshrined here at St John. I invite you all to please join us in welcoming our Blessed Mother into our midst.

Last March 17, 2024, we had a benefit concert at the Pavalkis Hall that featured Filipino performer, Ms. Rachel Alejandro. It was a successful event which many of you, dear parishioners, supported wholeheartedly.

I wish to thank the producers, Raymond and Joy Barrozo of TopHat Productions, for undertaking this project to benefit St. John the Baptist Parish. They have been very dedicated parishioners that started way back when they were school parents. They have not wavered in their commitment to our Parish. Last Sunday, they gave the Parish the proceeds of the concert in the amount of $11,123.41. Thank you, Joy and Raymond

A big SHOUT OUT to Ms. Rachel Alejandro for her wonderful performance and generosity of time and talent. Thank you also to Justin Mel Cortez and Franchesca Lazaro for the additional luster they brought to the show as local talents. To the Ladies Guild and all other volunteers, thank you.

May God bless you all. HAPPY EASTER.

Msgr. Willie S. Manrique
