The Sacrament of Reconciliation known more traditionally as the Sacrament of Penance or Confession, encourages us to approach our priests as instruments of God’s forgiveness. We need to recall not a long laundry list of our sins, but to ask for the grace to improve and evolve as God’s beloved sons and daughters, free to spread his love. Through this sacrament we receive the grace and resolve to improve ourselves, to grow in holiness (wholeness) and to reach out in love and care for others. In addition to individual confession we have the opportunity to celebrate this Sacrament in a communal setting with our brothers and sisters in Christ, demonstrating that the forgiveness we seek and celebrate not only benefits us, but builds up the Church, the entire body of Christ.
